The red flags are often missed especially during the interview phase for both parties. No matter how urgent you need someone, please remember sometimes it takes time.
- A Nanny must know what to do- No ma she doesn’t. Kindly share your routine with her. If you don’t have please ask her to create one or create one with her. Also, take her through your home process; onboard the nanny upon resumption to understand your family dynamics. We understand how busy it can be for most families to take time to explain basics but this is very important for a good start and sustainable nanny- parent relationship.
- A nanny is a professional so she knows everything about a child- Your child is different and that’s enough reason to give the nanny important details that enables her give the best to your child. Details like food preference. Preferred activity, routine before you have their bath, allergies etc. These information is at the best interest of both the family and the nanny.
- The nanny is perfect- no one is . There should be room to accommodate some mistakes and excesses. We do not commend repeated mistakes but we ask that some flexibility should be given especially for new Nannie’s or first time Nannies.
- Magic! – Nothing is magic everything takes time. This includes getting to know the child or children. Understanding the routine and how things are done in the home and many more.
- Nannying is not a big deal. It’s actually a big deal. That’s why no one should work with a child if they are not trained to do so.
- I pay you so you must do the job- a little bit of respect here and there makes the work worth it. Approve rest and break time. Create a routine that ensures early going to bed for the kids and the nanny. It’s always a win-win when a nanny is not made to feel like a slave.
- I trust you and that’s it: we advise you to trust but also verify. No matter how long a nanny has worked for you, create a system for checks and upgrades.
